Conservation action is often grounded in our present or recent understanding of how species behave and their current geographic range. However, the rapid landscape changes associated with anthropogenic climate change pose a threat to many of the world's fragile environments. My research focuses on how climate change is affecting lions across continental Africa, including predicting how populations will change in the future in order to provide the most appropriate strategies to conserve species and manage landscapes. Part of my research also includes projection lion distribution back through the Late Quaternary and Holocene to assess the drivers of range collapse and refine the mechanics of current and future distribution models. Additionally, I'm investigating how activity patterns of lions are changing with increasing temperatures.
